Reverse description Entirely plain zinc field framed by a continuous beaded border along the rim. The large numeral 50, denoting the denomination of fifty Pfennig, occupies the majority of the central field in bold, raised capital figures. The design is deliberately austere, with no additional legends, symbols, or decorative elements, reflecting the functional emergency character of this wartime Notgeld issue.

Additional information

Pressath is a small market town in the Upper Palatinate, and its 1917 zinc notgeld issue belongs to the first wave of municipal emergency coinage produced after Berlin's Bundesrat authorized local authorities to mint substitute currency that spring. The national copper and nickel shortage — driven by military demand for shell casings and machine components — had gutted the Reichsbank's ability to supply small-denomination coinage to municipalities of any size. Towns like Pressath were effectively left to manage their own fractional currency problem.

The Funck reference lists two die varieties under this type, reflected in the dual Men18 numbers.
