| Obverse description | The obverse features a pearl border encircling the entire design. A beaded inner circle frames the central field, within which the large denomination numeral '50' is prominently displayed above the inscription 'PFENNIG' in the lower portion of the circle. An inner legend 'SPARMARKE' arcs across the upper interior of the beaded circle. The outer legend 'STÄDTISCHE SPARKASSE' runs along the upper periphery and 'MÜNSTERBERG' along the lower periphery, separated by small ornamental star stops. |

Münsterberg — today Ziębice in Lower Silesia, Poland — issued this notgeld piece through its municipal savings bank during the postwar currency crisis that left German towns effectively printing their own money. The Städtische Sparkasse served as the issuing authority rather than the municipality directly, a common arrangement that gave the notes and coins a veneer of banking legitimacy. Aluminum was the pragmatic choice by 1921; copper and nickel had been stripped from civilian coinage during the war and remained scarce.
