| Additional information |
Münsterberg's iron notgeld emerged from the acute metal shortages of the First World War's final year, when the German military's demand for copper, nickel, and brass had stripped civilian coinage from circulation almost entirely. Municipal savings banks — Stadtsparkassen — were among the more unusual emergency issuers, stepping in where the Reichsbank could not. Iron was the material of last resort: cheap, abundant, and deeply unpopular with the public, who knew it rusted in the pocket.
The Funck 351.4 designation places this within a documented local variety sequence, suggesting Münsterberg issued across multiple die types during the emergency period.
