Obverse description Central field features the heraldic shield of the city of Menden, depicting a fortified tower or gate with crenellated battlements surmounted by a mural crown, rendered in relief within a cartouche-shaped escutcheon. Flanking the shield on either side are decorative foliate sprays. The legend STADT MENDEN curves along the upper periphery, reading left to right, with the text divided on either side of the central device. The design is bordered by a continuous inner ring of beads set just within the raised rim.
