Eutin's Kriegerverein — a veterans' association in a small Holstein town of no great economic weight — issued this 50 Pfennig note in 1921, deep into the notgeld period when municipal bodies, clubs, and private associations across Germany were producing emergency small change to fill the void left by hoarded coinage. That a veterans' organization rather than a municipal treasury was doing the issuing says something about how thoroughly the system had broken down.

Gebrüder Borchers in Lübeck handled a considerable volume of regional notgeld printing. Designer Bruno Wolf's credit is relatively uncommon in surviving documentation for this series.
