Eisenach's notgeld issues from the early 1920s inflation period were among the more carefully produced municipal emergency notes in Thuringia — offset-printed by Arthur Kirchner of Erfurt rather than the cheaper letterpress operations many smaller towns used. The watermarked paper was a deliberate choice, an attempt at credibility in a currency environment where counterfeiting and refusal of local scrip were constant practical problems.
The "K. Schwalbe" designation identifies the specific series within Eisenach's notgeld program, distinguishing it from earlier or parallel issues by the same authority.
