| Reverse description | A draped female figure, likely representing the allegorical personification of the city of Heilbronn or Germania, stands facing forward at center in low relief, rendered in a neoclassical style. She wears a flowing gown and a helmet or crown upon her head, and holds an object, possibly a sword or scepter, at her side. The date '1918' is divided to either side of the figure — '19' to the lower left and '18' to the lower right — in large open numerals. A continuous border of raised pellets traces the inner edge of the octagonal flan, framing the composition. |

Heilbronn issued iron notgeld in 1918 under the same wartime metal shortages that stripped German municipal authorities of nickel and copper — both diverted to shell casings and military hardware. Cities were effectively licensed to mint their own emergency coinage, producing a chaotic patchwork of local issues that circulated only within their issuing municipality. Iron was a poor substitute, prone to rust, which is why survivors in genuinely uncleaned condition are harder to locate than the mintage figures might suggest.
