Obverse description The central vignette presents a theatrical scene rendered in monochrome halftone, showing a group of medieval costumed figures bearing heraldic banners against a stone backdrop, illustrating an episode from the life of Emperor Günther von Schwarzburg. Below the vignette runs the caption text, followed by the denomination line in bold Gothic blackletter script and the date of issue, serial number, and a circular validity stamp at centre. The note is framed by an ornate letterpress border with geometric and foliate guilloche patterns, with the denomination numerals "50" printed in amber at each upper corner.

Reverse description The central vignette, printed in amber, grey-green, and black, portrays a fully armoured medieval knight mounted on a grey charger and carrying a lance, identified as Kaiser Günther von Schwarzburg. In the upper right, a view of Burg Greifenstein castle is set against an amber sky, with a winding path receding into the middle ground. Intricate dark guilloche side panels flank the central image, each incorporating a large amber "50" denomination numeral within an oval cartouche.

Bad Blankenburg named this series after Günther von Schwarzburg, the 14th-century Count of Schwarzburg who was briefly elected anti-king of Germany in 1349 — a rival to Charles IV, reigning only months before his death under disputed circumstances. The town sits within the historical Schwarzburg domain, which gave the local administration a convenient piece of dynastic identity to plaster onto emergency small change.

Wiedemannsche Druckerei AG in Saalfeld handled a considerable volume of Thuringian Notgeld during the inflation years. The single signatory, Dr. jur. E. Moenich, held legal rather than financial credentials — not unusual for municipal officials deputized into currency administration when the Reichsbank simply couldn't supply enough coin.
