Fürth's zinc Notgeld issues of 1917 came out of the same wartime metal emergency that stripped Germany's coinage system bare. By mid-war, the Imperial government had requisitioned copper, nickel, and eventually iron for munitions, leaving municipalities to fill the small-change vacuum with whatever they could stamp. Zinc was a compromise — brittle, prone to corrosion, and deeply unpopular in circulation.
The Funck 145.2 designation indicates a recognized die variety within the Fürth series, distinguishing it from at least one other emission of the same denomination.
