| Reverse description | The reverse is framed by ornate side borders composed of acanthus-leaf scrollwork in green and gold, with the denomination 'Fünfzig' in red script at the top corners and '50' in large red numerals at mid-border, above 'Pfennig' in red at the bottom corners. The central vignette, set within a rectangular frame with a green foliate top border, presents a silhouette scene of a blind war veteran being guided by his dog along an urban street lined with gas lamps and industrial buildings in the background. The Deutscher Verein für Sanitätshunde — the German Association for Sanitary Dogs — trained rescue and medical dogs, a practice developed intensively during the First World War when these animals were used to locate wounded soldiers on the battlefield. By 1921, the organization was operating in straitened postwar conditions, and this Notgeld issue was almost certainly a fundraising instrument rather than emergency currency in the conventional sense. Stalling, the Oldenburg printer responsible for this note, was a significant regional press with a long illustrated-book history.
