Großalmerode was kaolin country — the town's entire economic identity in the early twentieth century was built on mining and ceramics, particularly crucibles and retorts used in industrial chemistry across Europe. When the postwar currency shortage forced local merchant associations to issue their own fractional Kleingeld, it was the retail trade association — not the municipality or a bank — that stepped in here, covering four named districts simultaneously under a single issuing body. That administrative breadth across Witzenhausen, Oberkaufungen, Lichtenau, and Großalmerode is unusual even by Notgeld standards.

Bodenheim u. Co. in nearby Allendorf an der Werra handled the printing — a small regional firm serving the hyperinflation-era demand that overwhelmed larger commercial printers.
