| Obverse description | The obverse is printed in black, blue, and orange-red on cream paper. A large central oval cartouche carries the denomination numeral '50' set against a radiating star-burst underprint, flanked by Gothic-script currency symbols, with the issuer inscription 'der Stadt Kahla S.A.' arching above and the expiry date 'Verfalltag 31. Dezember 1921' below. The entire field is framed by an elaborate border of pine branches, pine cones, and lit Advent candles rendered in the Jugendstil decorative idiom, with the title 'Gutschein' in bold blackletter at the top and a ribbon scroll at the foot bearing facsimile signatures over the titles 'Bürgermeister' and 'Stadtrat'; the printer's imprint 'DRUCK: HIMMER, AUGSBURG.' appears at the base. |

The oval is set within a richly decorative Jugendstil border of scrolling acanthus-like foliage in red-orange, with pairs of winged angels in each corner, all against a plain cream ground.
