Braubach's lead and silver smelting works on the Rhine issued these notgeld pieces during the post-WWI metal and currency shortages that forced hundreds of German industrial firms to produce their own emergency coinage. The dual Menzel references reflect the two variants — zinc plain and nickel-plated — catalogued separately, a distinction that trips up collectors who assume they hold duplicates when they may hold both.
