Additional information

Barmen issued this zinc notgeld piece in 1917 as wartime metal requisitions had stripped civilian minting of copper and nickel. The city would cease to exist as an independent municipality just a decade later, absorbed into the newly consolidated Wuppertal in 1929 along with Elberfeld and five smaller communities — making all Barmen civic issues terminal by definition.
