| Reverse description | The reverse presents a large woodcut-style vignette of a forest logging scene captioned 'Forstwirtschaft i. Schmiedefeld', with timber workers felling and sawing trees amid a wooded Thuringian landscape, framed by chain-link border pillars and oak-leaf panels at upper corners. The denomination '50' and 'Pfg' appear in bold type at upper left and right respectively. Below the vignette, a two-line verse in blackletter script occupies a ruled panel across the full width of the note. |

Schmiedefeld am Rennsteig is a village in the Thuringian highlands, and like hundreds of German municipalities during the Kleingeldnot of 1917–1922, it issued its own emergency small-change notes when coins disappeared from circulation — hoarded for their metal content or swallowed by wartime procurement. Graphische Werkstätten G.m.b.H. in Ilmenau was a regional printer that handled a significant volume of this Thuringian notgeld business, supplying nearby communities that lacked access to larger printing houses.
The DeNG reference suffix variants (.1 through .5/6) indicate multiple serial or color printings within the same issue — not unusual for notgeld that had to be reprinted as demand outpaced initial runs.
