The town's decision to commission local designer A. Dickert rather than contracting an established printing house gave the series a distinctly regional character — a choice that was commercially shrewd as much as anything else, since by 1921 decorative Notgeld had become a minor cottage industry, with collectors actively seeking out provincial issues and municipalities profiting accordingly from notes never intended to circulate.
