Egenbüttel is a village in Schleswig-Holstein that, like hundreds of similarly small German municipalities, resorted to printing its own emergency currency during the acute coin shortages of the First World War and its aftermath. Konrad Hanf was a Hamburg commercial printer who handled Notgeld commissions for numerous small issuers across the region — his involvement here is entirely typical of the Hamburg trade printing market of that period.
The watermark security feature is worth noting: many municipal Notgeld issues of this scale skipped it entirely, making its inclusion here a minor point of distinction within the DeNG 308 series.
