Hohenfriedeberg — now Dobromierz in southwestern Poland — was a small Silesian town whose name carried outsized historical weight: Frederick the Great's decisive 1745 victory over the Austro-Saxon forces was fought on the plain just north of it. The town's Stadtkasse issued this 50 Pfennig Notgeld almost two centuries later, during the post-WWI small-change crisis that forced German municipalities to print their own emergency currency.
Silesian Notgeld from towns of this size was typically printed in short runs and redeemed quickly, leaving few circulated survivors.
