Reverse description The reverse is dominated by a central vignette set beneath a richly ornamented Gothic pointed arch supported by clustered columns, rendered in violet and dark tones. Within this arch, a three-quarter perspective view of the historic Tetzelkasten — the carved Gothic indulgence chest housed in the Nikolaikirche — is rendered in ochre and black, resting on a cobblestone floor. A decorative pink guilloche band at the foot of the vignette carries the inscription 'Tezelkasten in der Nicolaikirche' in blackletter script, with the denomination '50 Pfg.' in dark cartouches at lower left and lower right.

Comments

Jüterbog is a small Brandenburg garrison town whose municipal authority issued this Notgeld during the hyperinflationary spiral of 1922, when Reichsbank notes were being rendered obsolete faster than they could be printed. Local magistrates across Germany filled the gap with emergency scrip — technically illegal but tolerated by Berlin out of sheer necessity. The Magistrat series from Jüterbog is modest in scope, and this 50 Pfennig piece is among the lower denominations issued before the full collapse made fractional notes pointless.

The DeNG reference places it firmly in the documented Brandenburg municipal issues, though collector interest in this specific series remains limited compared to the more elaborately printed Serienscheine from larger cities.
