| Obverse description | The upper portion of the note is divided into three vignette panels: wheat sheaves at left, the polychrome municipal coat of arms of Erkelenz at centre — a crowned red merloned wall above a blue-and-white divided shield bearing a lion passant and a rose — and flowering heather at right, with the serial number printed above the central arms. The denomination 'Fünfzig Pfennig' is rendered in large Gothic (Fraktur) script flanking the central arms, with numeral '50' repeated in each corner. The lower half carries the issuing authority 'Stadt Erkelenz' in bold Fraktur lettering above a multi-line redemption text, with the Bürgermeister's manuscript signature at lower right. |
