Lüdinghausen's 1921 notgeld issue belongs to the second wave of German municipal emergency currency — printed after the initial postwar coin shortage had theoretically passed, but with inflation already making small-denomination coinage economically unviable to mint. Fr. Wilh. Ruhfus of Dortmund was a regional workhorse printer for Westphalian notgeld, handling dozens of municipal contracts simultaneously during this period, which accounts for the family resemblance across many issues from this corner of the Ruhr.
The DeNG reference suffix ".1-2/5" indicates this is one of five recorded varieties in the series — collectors should note that minor text or color variants exist within this catalogue number.
