The heading reads 'Notgeld der Stadt Todtnau' in Gothic blackletter script, flanked by circular '50 Pfennig' denomination medallions and decorative scrollwork vignettes at each side. A central text panel carries a dialect verse attributed to Johann Peter Hebel, with the place and date 'Todtnau i. Wiesental, 31. Reverse description Printed in brown and tan on cream paper, the reverse carries the heading 'Notgeld der Stadt Todtnau' in Gothic blackletter script at the top, with circular '50 Pfennig' denomination medallions in the upper corners. The central vignette, set within a circular frame inside a rectangular border, presents a landscape view of the town of Todtnau nestled against a dramatic rocky alpine peak with a conifer, evoking the Black Forest (Schwarzwald) setting. Symmetrical decorative scroll ornaments flank the central panel on both sides.
