| Reverse description | The reverse is dominated by a large central vignette in dark intaglio-style letterpress, rendered in black and grey-brown tones, depicting the legendary Count of Gleichen (Graf von Gleichen) in full armour standing between his two wives — Othilia to the left and Melechsala to the right — each named in inscription above their figures. The Count holds a heraldic shield charged with a lion rampant, and flanking shields in the upper corners display a cross and a crescent with star respectively, symbolising the legend's Christian and Saracen elements. At the foot of the composition, a small landscape vignette shows Burg Ehrenstein near Remda, with the denomination numeral '50' in large figures at lower left and right, and the legend 'BURG EHRENSTEIN BEI REMDA' along the bottom border. |
