| Obverse description | A multicolour letterpress vignette occupies the central field with a panoramic view of the Romanesque collegiate church of St. Cyriakus (Stiftskirche St. Cyriaci) as seen from the south, its twin west towers rising above a townscape of red-roofed houses amid dense foliage. The denomination '50 Pfennig' appears in bold Gothic blackletter type at each corner, with the heading 'Notgeldschein der Stadt Gernrode-Harz' in large Gothic script across the top margin. A captioned cartouche at lower left identifies the view, while the issuing authority, issue date, and a serial number in typeset numerals run along the bottom margin beneath the vignette. |

| Reverse description | Printed in warm ochre and black, the reverse is organised into three vertical panels, each containing an architectural interior scene from the Stiftskirche St. Cyriaci. The outer two panels present robed figures within the arched interior of the Holy Sepulchre chapel (Kapelle des heiligen Grabes), while the central panel renders a Romanesque church capital (Kirchen-Kapitael) on its column in fine detail. Verse text in Gothic script, attributed to Feescke, is distributed across two upper cartouches flanking the central column, with caption banners at the foot of each panel identifying the respective subjects. |
