| Reverse description | The entire reverse is occupied by a large vignette in warm ochre, grey, and brown tones, showing a traditional two-masted sailing vessel under full sail on choppy coastal waters, with the silhouette of a town and industrial skyline visible on the horizon. Denomination numerals '50' appear in bold black type at the upper left and upper right corners, each accompanied by the abbreviation 'PF.' The composition is enclosed within a decorative oak-leaf border printed in brown and tan, and the artist's signature 'W. BAASCH' is inscribed in the lower right corner of the vignette. |

Eckernförde's 1921 Notgeld issue is one of several hundred district-level emergency currency series produced across Weimar Germany following the post-WWI coin shortage. What distinguishes this particular series is the involvement of a named local designer — W. Baasch — which was not universal among Kreis-level issues, many of which simply recycled stock ornamental borders from the printer's catalog.
C. Handorff of Kiel handled a substantial volume of Schleswig-Holstein Notgeld work during this period, making attribution of the physical printing straightforward. The Eckernförde district lies roughly 25 kilometers north of Kiel on the Baltic coast.
