| Obverse description | Warm ochre and grey letterpress vignette centred on a full-length armoured knight standing beneath a stone archway gateway, holding a shield inscribed with a Low German verse. The city arms surmount the arch at top centre, flanked by the inscription 'Stadt Herne i/Westf. 1921' in Gothic script. Denomination roundels reading '50 Pfg.' appear at left and right, while a scrolled ribbon at the bottom carries the payment obligation text, date '1.
