Kölln-Reisiek is a small municipality in Holstein, and its decision to issue notgeld in 1921 places it firmly in the second wave of German emergency money — by that point inflationary pressure had made small-denomination coinage essentially useless in everyday commerce, and thousands of German municipalities were filling the gap themselves. Konrad Hanf in Hamburg was a reliable regional printer for this kind of work, producing runs for numerous Holstein and Schleswig communities.
