Osnabrück's municipal Pfennig notes from this period belong to the vast flood of German Kleingeldscheine issued as the Reichsbank's coin production collapsed under the weight of post-war economic dislocation. The Magistrat turned to Gebrüder Jänecke — a well-established Hannover printing house with deep roots in high-quality commercial lithography — rather than one of the more prolific emergency note printers of the era, which gives this series a noticeably cleaner finish than many comparable municipal issues.
