Hugo Steiner-Prag was a Czech-born illustrator best known for his expressionist woodcut-style work on literary editions — his 1915 illustrations for Der Golem are still referenced in print history. His involvement in German Notgeld design was not unusual for the period; municipalities commissioning artistically ambitious emergency currency often recruited established graphic names rather than commercial job printers. Jütte in Leipzig had the production infrastructure to realize that kind of work at scale.
Bosau is a small community on the Kellersee in Schleswig-Holstein, which made its Notgeld issues a collector target almost immediately upon release — the 1921 series was printed with the secondary market firmly in mind.
