Aventoft is the smallest parish in Germany by population — a handful of farms straddling the Danish border in Schleswig, a region still raw from the 1920 plebiscite that had only just redrawn the frontier. This note was issued the following year, when municipal credit was essentially nonexistent and the smallest communities were left to print their own emergency fractional currency rather than wait for central supply.
Aug. Westphalen in Flensburg printed Notgeld for dozens of Schleswig parishes during this period, working at volume. The two catalogue variants (.1 and .2) typically reflect a color or serial difference rather than separate emissions.
