Comments

Wesenberg was a small market town in Mecklenburg with a population of only a few thousand when it issued this note during the acute small-change shortage that gripped Germany in 1919–1921. Municipal and commercial entities across the country were legally permitted — reluctantly tolerated is more accurate — by the Reichsbank to fill the gap that hoarded coinage had left. Wesenberg's series is among the more obscure provincial emissions from Mecklenburg, with print runs almost certainly in the low thousands.

Local printing, as here, typically meant a jobbing press rather than a security printer, which accounts for the variable paper quality seen across surviving examples of comparable Kleingeldscheine from this region.
