| Obverse description | The upper portion of the obverse carries the bold Gothic-script inscription 'Notgeld der Stadt Detmold' above the municipal coat of arms — a heraldic shield in red bearing a stylised gate with two towers and a six-petalled rose, flanked by ornate scrollwork. Denomination panels reading '50 Pfg.' in shield-shaped cartouches appear at left and right, framed by red-and-grey Art Nouveau foliate columns.
