| Obverse description | The upper portion carries the combined arms of Dortmund and Hörde at left — a quartered shield with an eagle and a chequered field — alongside a bold shield-shaped denomination vignette reading '50 Pf' at upper right. The central vignette presents a detailed industrial panorama of the Ruhr steelworks, with blast furnaces, cooling towers, smokestacks, factory buildings, and a locomotive in the foreground, all rendered in dark letterpress. A text panel at the lower margin contains the issuing authority's legal tender inscription, the place and date 'Dortmund und Hörde, den 15. Mai 1919,' and the facsimile signatures of 'Die Magistrate' and 'Die Landräte.' |

| Reverse description | The reverse is dominated by a large circular guilloche medallion at centre bearing the bold numeral '50' above the denomination 'Pfennig' in Kurrent script, set within an ornate stippled border. Corner cartouches repeat the numeral '50' in each of the four quadrants of the decorative frame. A rectangular panel in the lower half contains a validity notice in German blackletter script, and the printer's imprint 'DRUCK W. CRÜWELL' appears at the very foot of the note. |
