Obverse description	Intaglio portrait of José Pedro Varela in three-quarter view to the right occupies the centre-right field, his name inscribed on a ribbon vignette at lower right. The Uruguayan coat of arms appears at upper left above the watermark area, set against a fine multicolour guilloche underprint in green and red tones. Two facsimile signatures below the central vignette are captioned "Secretaria General" and "Presidente", with denomination numerals "50" repeated at lower left and lower right in octagonal guilloche cartouches.

Reverse description	A detailed intaglio vignette of the Monument to José Pedro Varela occupies the left half of the note, rendered in red-brown tones and showing the multi-figure sculptural group on a stepped plinth, captioned "MONUMENTO A JOSE PEDRO VARELA" at lower centre. To the right, an open book within a laurel wreath vignette is set against a geometric guilloche background, with the denomination value panel "CINCUENTA" in a shaded rectangle below. The printer's imprint "DE LA RUE" appears at lower right, and a vertical security thread is visible along the right margin.
