| Obverse description | Black intaglio print on white paper with an elaborate guilloche border. Banco Argentino was one of several provincial banks operating in Córdoba during the brief window of free banking that preceded Argentina's nationalization of currency in the 1880s. These institutions issued their own notes backed — nominally — by specie or government bonds, but enforcement of reserve requirements was inconsistent at best. The denomination here, expressed in pesos plata boliviana, reflects the persistent circulation of Bolivian silver coinage in the interior provinces long after Buenos Aires had standardized on its own peso fuerte.
Provincial free-banking notes from this period survive in tiny numbers. Most were redeemed, refused, or simply worn out before any collecting culture existed to preserve them. PS-catalogue listings for Córdoba issues frequently appear with no known examples cited.
