Obverse description The Mexican national arms occupy the central field, depicting the celebrated Aztec symbol of an eagle perched upon a prickly-pear cactus growing from a rock in a lake, devouring a serpent in its beak and talons. An oak branch is shown to the left and a laurel branch to the right, joined at the base by a ribbon bow. The national legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS arcs along the upper periphery in raised Latin lettering. The design is framed by a continuous beaded border, and the entire composition is rendered in high-relief proof finish against a deeply mirrored field.
