Obverse description The Mexican national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a Mexican golden eagle perched in profile upon a nopal cactus growing from a rocky islet, devouring a serpent clutched in its beak and right talon. The cactus is flanked by an oak branch to the left and a laurel branch to the right, tied together at the base. The entire design is rendered in fine relief against a mirrored proof field. The circular legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS arcs along the upper periphery in Latin script, with a beaded border encircling the entire design.
