Additional information

Issued as part of Cuba's ongoing gold commemorative program, this piece marks the 30th anniversary of the revolutionary campaign that brought Castro's forces from the Sierra Maestra into Havana in January 1959. Cuba's gold commemoratives of the 1980s were produced almost exclusively for export and hard-currency revenue — the coins never circulated domestically, where gold ownership remained tightly restricted.
