| Obverse description | Front-facing effigy of Uruguayan essayist and philosopher José Enrique Rodó occupying the central field, rendered in moderate relief with fine detail to the hair, pince-nez spectacles, and characteristic moustache. The legend REPUBLICA ORIENTAL DEL URUGUAY arcs along the upper periphery. The birth and death years 1871 and 1917 flank the portrait at lower left and right respectively, with the surname RODO inscribed prominently along the lower rim beneath the effigy. |
