The "Pesos Dominicanos" denomination label — rather than simply "Pesos" — reflects a constitutional branding decision made when the Banco Central redesigned its series in the early 2000s to formally distinguish the currency from other peso-denominated units in the region. The change was largely symbolic but deliberate.
Paper composition at this date is notable: the Dominican Republic had already introduced polymer notes for lower denominations by this period, making the continued use of paper substrate for mid-range values a conscious cost and logistics choice, not a default.
