Obverse description The Cuban national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a shield divided into three sections: the upper portion bears a rising sun over a sea passage flanked by two headlands (representing the key position of Cuba between the Americas), the lower-left section displays a blue-and-white striped background, and the lower-right section features a royal palm. The shield is surmounted by a Phrygian cap on a staff, symbolising liberty, and is flanked by a wreath of oak leaves to the left and laurel to the right, tied at the base. The circular legend REPUBLICA DE CUBA arcs along the upper periphery, while 50 PESOS appears at the base; the fineness AU 0.999 is inscribed to the right and the weight designation 1/2 OZ to the left. The entire design is framed by a rope-twist border.
