Additional information

Captain Kidd's connection to Cuba is marginal at best — his actual operations centered on the Indian Ocean and Red Sea before his 1701 hanging at Execution Dock in London — which makes this issue more a product of the 1990s commemorative gold boom than any genuine historical claim. Cuba was aggressively producing collector-targeted precious metal issues throughout this decade, often licensing piracy and maritime themes with loose geographic justifications to capture the international numismatic market.

The JMA reference places this firmly within the Cuban joint-metal and precious metal commemorative classification system used by specialist collectors of Caribbean issues.
