The Banco Provincial de Córdoba was a provincial institution operating under Argentina's decentralized banking framework of the 1860s and 1870s, when individual provinces retained the right to charter their own note-issuing banks. This arrangement collapsed in 1891 with the Banca Libre crisis and the eventual nationalization of currency functions under the Banco de la Nación Argentina, making notes from this period genuine survivors of a brief and turbulent experiment in federated monetary policy.
The dry stamp is the only security measure recorded for this issue — unusually minimal even by Argentine provincial standards of the period.
