| Additional information |
The BCIE was founded in 1960 under the General Treaty of Central American Economic Integration, and this 1970 issue marks the organization's first decade of operation. It is among the very few gold coins ever struck bearing the BCIE's name as issuer — an institution that functions as a development bank, not a sovereign state, making its appearance on a circulating-format coin an administrative curiosity rather than a conventional monetary instrument.
