Banco de México turned to the American Bank Note Company throughout the 1940s, a relationship that had been well established since the bank's early years following its 1925 founding. This particular series spans a period when Mexico's economy was expanding rapidly on the back of wartime commodity exports — the country supplied raw materials to the Allied industrial effort without itself entering combat, and peso stability during these years was genuinely unusual for Latin America.
ABNCo engraving on Mexican issues of this period is consistently fine-lined work, and the 50 Peso denomination would have circulated among commercial rather than retail transactions — a meaningful sum at the time.
