| Obverse description | The obverse is printed in green letterpress on plain paper, centred on the bold denomination legend 'CINCUENTA PESOS' with the numeral 50 at each lower corner. An eagle vignette incorporating the Antioquia departmental shield occupies the upper left, balanced by the numeral 50 at the upper right beneath the heading 'GOBIERNO DEPARTAMENTAL'. The body text carries the payment obligation 'El Tesoro del Departamento pagará á la vista en moneda CORRIENTE', with the issue place and date 'Medellín, Julio de 1902' and ruled signature lines for the Sub-Secretary of Finance and the Administrator General of the Treasury. |

The Gobierno Departamental de Antioquia issued emergency departmental paper during the Thousand Days War (1899–1902), one of the most destructive civil conflicts in Colombian history. With the national monetary system in collapse and Bogotá effectively unable to supply currency to the provinces, regional governments and even private firms took it upon themselves to print circulating notes. Antioquia's departmental government was among the more organized issuers, using its own Imprenta Oficial rather than contracting abroad.
The Thousand Days War ended in November 1902, making this note a product of the conflict's final, chaotic months.
