Jersey's WWI centenary 50 pence series ran from 2014 through 2018, with each issue marking a specific year or figure from the conflict. This piece commemorates George V, who as king spent the war years managing the delicate political calculus of a monarchy with deep dynastic ties to the enemy — the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha was renamed Windsor in 1917 specifically to distance the Crown from its German roots, a change George himself ordered under considerable public pressure.
