Additional information

Guernsey has long exploited its status as a Crown Dependency — outside UK jurisdiction but owing allegiance to the Crown — to issue commemorative pieces that the Royal Mint itself cannot or will not produce. This 2017 WWI centenary release is one of dozens in a sprawling series that flooded the collector market through television shopping channels and direct-mail campaigns, marketed aggressively to a non-specialist audience unfamiliar with the distinction between legal tender commemoratives and gold-plated copper novelties.

The face value of 50p is nominal and technically valid on Guernsey, though no shop would see one in circulation.
