The Isle of Man has long operated as one of the more commercially aggressive issuers in the commemorative coin market, licensing popular cultural properties well outside the scope of what most sovereign mints would touch. This Alice in Wonderland piece appeared alongside several companion issues in 2021, the 120th anniversary of Lewis Carroll's death — a sufficiently round number to justify a product line.
The colorization was applied post-strike, a process the Pobjoy Mint has used extensively for Isle of Man issues since the 1990s.
