The 2002 Falkland Islands commemorative program was anchored in the twentieth anniversary of the Falklands War — the ten-week conflict that cost 255 British and 649 Argentine lives before Argentine forces surrendered on June 14, 1982. The thanksgiving service referenced here was held at St. Paul's Cathedral in London following the ceasefire, a deliberately low-key ceremony given the political sensitivities with Argentina that persisted long after the guns went quiet.
